Revitalizing the Precious Human Soul within the Judeo/ Christian Contemplative Tradition
Purpose
We live in a world of mystery, wonder and beauty. But most of us seldom participate in this real world, living in a world that is mostly strife, suffering, and quiet desperation. This situation is due to not realizing and living our full human potential. This potential can be actualized by the realization and development of the “precious human soul.” The soul is the part of us that is innate and real, and which can participate in the real world.
The more we are in touch with ourselves, the more we feel this innate desire to know and to be who we really are. We want the freedom to live as we’re supposed to live, to fulfill all our potential. When we don’t we suffer – but that suffering, rather than being a problem spiritual work aims to solve, is simply a hunger for our true selves to live, to be free; it is a signal that we want to return to our true nature.
Chalice Heart is a spiritual teaching with aim/ orientation toward development of spiritual maturity and completeness. The larger aim, beyond the development of aspirants, is to contribute to the development of humanity in the service of ultimate spiritual truth. This path has grown out of the spiritual needs of people leading ordinary lives in contemporary society. The teaching bridges the traditional divisions between what is considered sacred and what is considered mundane. The unique perspective of Chalice Heart uses elements from depth psychology, combined with various spiritual practices, in support of a new method for engaging the process of spiritual transformation in everyday living.
The Chalice Heart teaching is based on surrender into personal experience, motivated by curiosity and fueled by the love of truth. This spiritual practice leads to precise, objective understanding of personal experience, which in turn facilitates the unfoldment of the soul by allowing growing openness to its inherent spiritual nature. In the process of working more and more deeply on oneself, dimensions of reality and of human potential can be experienced, appreciated, and integrated into one’s on-going consciousness. Chalice Heart uses mediation and various other spiritual exercises and practices, including group processes.
Blessings
The soul’s inner journey is many things. It is a journey of adventure and discovery; a journey of maturation and completeness; a journey of truth and authenticity; a journey of love, devotion, passion, and union; a journey of compassion, giving, and service. It is a journey of realization of the nature of soul and reality; a journey of insight and learning; a journey of fulfillment of life and human potential; a journey of liberation from suffering and limitation; and a journey of inner freedom.
Yet, all these reflect one thing, and only one thing. For the journey is a journey home, to our original primordial ground and source. To be at home is to be whole, contented, and at peace, for no reason but that we are abiding in our true nature. There is no need then, no restlessness, no stirring of dissatisfaction, no ambition for anything at all.
Abiding at home, we can live any life that fits our circumstances, and it will be a life redeemed, where one’s fulfillment is identical with serving others. Such connection with the Ground of Being can take us through the vicissitudes of life and its unavoidable adversities, with maturity,
dignity, and grace.
A Prayer by St. Thomas Aquinas
Grant me, O Lord my God,
A mind to know you,
A heart to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
conduct pleasing to you,
faithful perseverance in
waiting for you,
and a hope of finally
embracing you.
Amen
